Given the importance of wetlands to biodiversity, recreation, ecosystem services, etc. and the fact that < 10% of wetlands that existed 150 years ago
remain today, we could suggest that the government should call a moratorium on the conversion of wetlands in New Zealand.
I'm not sure if the NPS is the right place to signal this, but it would seem to me that "no further wetland conversion" should be central
government policy.
