This is a great idea. I think its presence needs to be advertised amongst the members of NZFSS so enough people use it to gain a critical mass.

Threads/topics are never deleted. At some point, additional pages will be added by the software (I can't remember how many threads fit on a page), which
people will be able to access from the main forum page. The most excellentest thing about the forum is that everything is archived by keywords. So any member
can use the search engine to find any old topics.
Glad you like it . I have sent two emails to the NZFSS members - one
recently and one in July when the forum started up. Those should have hit at least 150 people. I'm guessing that either:
1. some people don't read the NZFSS emails (or they are filtered out) 2. some people don't have the time 3. some people are lurking but haven't posted yet - which is cool 4. some people are uncomfortable with the technology 5. some people might not feel free to express their opinions openly (I hope that they are aware that they can post anonymously, under a pseudonym) I have no way of knowing how many people have looked at the forum, only how many have posted (23 to date). You are right, Deleatidium - achieving a critical mass is important. Along with further occasional email updates to the NZFSS membership, I suggest that we encourage this along by spreading the word to our colleagues/students. Cheers! |

Definitely a good idea Marc, thanks. I couldn't find an Introductions thread (for members/posters to give some background on themselves), might it be worth
having one of those? Thanks, Mhairi Gordon

Hi Mhairi and welcome to the forum,
I couldn't find an Introductions thread (for members/posters to give some background on themselves), might it be worth having one of those? One advantage of this type of forum is that people are free to remain anonymous. It might not matter to you or me whether we are known on this forum, but some people might feel constrained in expressing their opinions if they can't remain anonymous to their bosses, peers, friends, etc. However, if you would like to start an "introductions" thread, go ahead. If a few members join you and take the opportunity to contribute thier own "bios", I would be happy to turn the thread into a "sticky thread", so that it will remain among the first few posts on the list - sort of an "official" thread of the forum. Please tell your colleagues/friends to use this forum. We need to maintain a certain critical mass of members/users or else this forum will go stale. I'm not sure what that critical number of members/users is, but I am hoping that we are not too far from that number... This forum has great potential and I would like to see it continue and become more vibrant. |
